The Incalculable Loss Project

On Memorial Day, The New York Times used their cover to pay tribute to individuals who had died from Covid-19. A few short days later, George Floyd was murdered by police in Minneapolis. Jessica McEwan and I made The Incalculable Loss Project to imagine a world where the media gives the same spotlight to another public health crisis: Black deaths by police violence. We took that iconic Times cover and featured just some of the names of Black lives lost to police violence alongside the status of their case and the police dept. responsible.

Jerry Saltz, NY Mag’s Sr. Art Critic reposted the piece.

Jerry Saltz spoke at my senior art history thesis class in college. I followed his career ever since and he’s become my art history idol.

He tagged the wrong person but he helped us get the piece out to more people so that’s all that matters.

TOP CHEF HOST, CHEF, AND FOOD JUSTICE ADVOCATE; Padma Lakshmi, tweeted about our project.

Padma is often advocating for others. Whether through her show, Taste the Nation, or in her social presence. So having her share our project was exactly what we hoped for.
